Republic Polytechnic (RP) open house 2023, which was held on the 5th to 7th of January, showcased RP’s courses and facilities to parents and prospective students through booths and tours around the RP campus.
Just like other polytechnics in Singapore, RP had their very first face-to-face open house since Covid-19. When entering RP, one can immediately see many vibrant booths along school blocks, accompanied by cheerful RP student representatives tending to the booths. There were more than 40 booths for the public to explore!

Many other booths around RP also provide hands-on activities for students to discover their new found love for a course, or further enhance their curiosity to learn more. 16-year-old Callista Wong from Jurong west secondary school visited booths from the School of Sports, Health and Leisure and said “After visiting all the booths in RP, I find myself being drawn to the sports booths. Not only are the booths fun and interactive, they also make me want to learn more about the science behind sports.”

Esther Tan, 16, from Jurong west secondary school was one of the students who signed up for the tour around RP with her mother. She said “When I entered this school, I did not know where to start looking. Luckily, the tour guide was very friendly and helpful. I managed to look at all the booths and and have a better understanding of the courses available in RP.”
The open house includes talks from all the different schools in RP, spread throughout a range of timings from the 5th to 7th of January. These talks gave parents and students brief insights on what will be taught in the course. PFP and JAE students could attend admission talks, and course counselling talks were also available for students to consult lecturers before making their course selection.
54-year-old Tan Lan Theen went to the RP open house with her 16-year-old daughter, Esther Tan. After participating in the admission talk with Esther, Mrs Tan said “I was quite worried because I did not know what PFP is, but now I have a much better understanding on what it is and what her (Esther’s) journey after secondary school will be like.”
In addition to the booths, tours, and helpful talks, RP also developed one hour, half day, and full day itineraries for guests to enjoy the open house efficiently. The one hour itinerary consisted of visiting all the booths on campus and chatting with RP lecturers and seniors. It is the best way to complete all the ‘must-dos’ in the open house under just one hour! The half and full day itineraries included more activities offered, such as catching energetic performances by RP’s interest groups and participating in mini games like floorball and archery.
In conclusion, the RP open house was an excellent opportunity for prospective students and their families to learn more about the institution's programs, facilities, and culture. Overall, the open house was an essential event for anyone considering RP as their next step in their educational journey. After 3 days of operation and many more days of preparation, the RP open house 2023 came to a successful end.
